Future day in Lyss: children learn about technical professions.

Drilling, tinkering, soldering and metal filing: On 11 November 2021, the National Future Day also took place at Feintool in Lyss. Girls and boys aged 11-13 made key rings in the training workshop with the support of the trained polymechanics. On this day, the children had the opportunity to learn about the individual apprenticeship professions and at the same time experience the workplace and the everyday working life of their parents.

During the workshops, they were able to make their own keychain, glowing Christmas trees and electronic cubes. For some of the children, it was the first time they had ever come into contact with a technical profession. In order to sensitise the children as early as possible to what career opportunities there are in industry, the apprentices were available in the workshop to answer any questions. The apprentices themselves reported on their experiences and were happy to share their knowledge. They reported on their training and everyday life at Feintool and what obstacles they have already overcome.

I’ve always wanted to be a car painter because I love painting myself”! explains Noel with sparkling eyes. In his free time, the boy loves to draw 3D drawings true to life. He pays close attention to the edges when he draws them so that it looks as if you are standing right in front of the car. He is also interested in big cars and off-road vehicles. Noel dreams of owning a jeep himself when he grows up.

When choosing a career, young people still choose gender-typical professions and disregard technical professions. Typical role models prevent them from discovering their personal talents. For this reason, it is important that Feintool shows young girls and boys in the form of workshops what opportunities they have in the professional world if they aspire to a profession.
